Now here’s a preview: The Boys unveiled the first image of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in Season 3 of the Amazon Prime comic series.
The supernatural vet portrays the very first superhero, who, after fighting in World War II, became the first “super celebrity” and a mainstay of American culture for decades. The concert reunites the actor with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who serves as showrunner on The Boys.
“Soldier Boy is the original badass,” costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, who created the costume with concept artist Greg Hopwood, said in a statement. “Our aim was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and courage. With that pedigree, we dove head first into all-American quality cooking grounded in military soldier practicality with a heavy dose of old-fashioned cowboy bluster. We knew the actor had to have the Steve McQueen look and chops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies it all. (Take a closer look at Soldier Boy’s shield on Ackles’ Instagram.)
Kripke added, “When I picked Jensen as Soldier Boy, the first thing I said was, ‘I’m very excited for you, because of the amazing process you’re going to go through with LJ, our designer. of Super Suit ”. It took six months, but the experience exceeded Jensen’s expectations. LJ has made a piece of art that takes his hat off to the boy soldier of WWII from the comics, while also taking it in a stylish new direction. And if you think the photos are cool, wait until you see Jensen in action. This is one of my favorite costumes. Following the announcement of Ackles’ casting last August, Kripke said in a statement: “When I was a child, I had a crazy and impossible dream: to provide Jensen Ackles with a paid job. I am happy to say that this dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, who smells like hot chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.
“As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he will bring so much humor, pathos and danger to the role,” Kripke added. “I can’t wait to be on set with him again and bring some Supernatural to The Boys.”
During a season 2 finale post-mortem Q&A with TVLine, Kripke teased that with the arrival of Soldier Boy “comes the big season. mythology that he runs through throughout. The season is kind of about him.
