Every American Horror Story fan has this season that hasn’t really done it for them – and apparently the stars of the show feel the same.
Sarah Paulson, who played three different characters in AHS: Roanoke, now tells The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, “I don’t care about this season at all. I know people are going to get mad at me for saying it, but for me it was after playing Marcia [Clark on American Crime Story] and that’s what I went to do right after I finished Marcia.
She goes on to say, “I was so disappointed with the whole experience because I felt like I had stepped into a new place inside of myself in terms of what I thought was possible, in terms of what I might be willing to see if I can do. I felt really trapped in my responsibility and my contractual obligation to make American Horror Story. As much as this is my home, and I have always loved it, c was the first time I felt like I wished I could have gone [series creator Ryan Murphy] and said, ‘Please let me sit this one down.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that an artist from AHS has shared less than favorable thoughts about a given season. During an interview with Gold Derby in 2019, Jessica Lange revealed that she is not Coven’s biggest fan.
“I was amazed that year to get the Emmy for this role,” Lange said of Fiona Goode. “The part was very well written. I didn’t particularly like the whole setup, the season and the story we were telling. It wasn’t my favorite.
Are you surprised by Paulson’s hot take on Roanoke, or do you agree it didn’t live up to typical AHS standards? And what is your least favorite season? Leave a comment with your thoughts below.
