Loki Laufeyson identifies as gender fluid in Disney + ‘s upcoming Marvel series, a new teaser has confirmed.
The fluidity of the Asgardian Trickster genre isn’t a new development – it’s long been speculated (since the shapeshifter character takes on many forms), and he actually became comic book canon in 2014 (when Odin called it Loki from “my son and my daughter, and my child who is both”; see image).
Still, for a Live MCU property, and one that will be available on Disney’s 19-month-old streaming service, it’s a significant development.
The new teaser, released on Sunday – just as the social media embargo was lifted on the first press reactions to the first two episodes – ends with a snapshot of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) dossier on Loki, who designates its sex as “FLUID”. . “

Previewing this Wednesday, June 9, Loki follows MCU vet Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief as he emerges from his brother’s shadow, in a series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame (during of which Loki about 2012 stumbled upon an abandoned Tesseract, and teleported to… well, you’ll see where / when soon enough).
The cast also includes Owen Wilson (as TVA Mobius agent), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (as TVA judge Ravonna Renslayer) and Wunmi Mosaku (as TVA B-15 hunter), as well as Sophia Di Martino and Richard E. Grant in undisclosed roles.
