At a recent pro-Julian Assange event, Roger Waters said he turned down an offer to have “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” featured in an Instagram ad, as Rolling Stone notes. “This is a request for the rights to use my song ‘Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2’ in the making of a film to promote Instagram,” Waters said while holding an alleged offer letter. “So it’s a missive … from Mark Zuckerberg to me.” Arrived this morning with an offer of a huge, huge amount of money. And the answer is, fuck you! No fucking way.
Waters continued, “I only mention that because it’s an insidious movement, it’s the insidious movement of them to take over absolutely everything, you know, so those of us who have power – and j ‘got a bit of it, in terms of controlling the publication of my songs, I do, anyway, so I won’t be complicit in this bullshit, Zuckerberg.
Waters went on to read the letter, “We would like to thank you for considering this project. We believe that the central sentiment of this song is still so prevalent and needed today, which shows how timeless a work is.
He then said, “And yet… they want to use it to make Facebook and Instagram even bigger and more powerful than they’ve ever been, so they can continue to censor us all in this room!” And prevent this story about Julian Assange from being released to the general public, so that the general public can say, What?
