The CW is working on a Supernatural prequel that will bring back star Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester as a narrator.
Called The Winchesters, the prequel will focus on Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents, John and Mary. Ackles will be the narrator of the series and is executive producer of the series alongside his wife Danneel. The show currently has a script engagement and will be written by former Supernatural co-executive producer Robbie Thompson.

“Before Sam and Dean, there were John and Mary,” Deadline reports. “Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, never-before-seen love story of how John met Mary and how they put everything on the line not just to save their love, but the whole world.
Supernatural ran for 15 seasons on The CW and ran from September 15, 2005 to November 19, 2020. It starred Ackles and Jared Padalecki in the lead roles.
“AfterSupernatural finished its 15th season, we knew it was not over. Because, as we say on the show, “nothing ever really ends, does it?” Jensen Ackles told Deadline. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew that the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt that my character, Dean, wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and where he came from. So I like the idea that he takes us on this journey.
