Rob Zombie searches for places in Budapest for the Munsters

Rob Zombie is currently traveling to Budapest to scout the locations of his film adaptation of the classic sitcom The Munsters. After months of rumors, Zombie officially confirmed this month that he is taking on the series for his next film project. Now that he can speak freely about the upcoming film, the filmmaker has posted updates to his Instagram account to keep fans up to date with the progress of The Munsters’ reboot.

Last week, Rob zombie revealed he was flying to Hungary to begin spotting the Munsters. This coincides with reports that the film is being shot in Budapest. So far, he hasn’t revealed any specific locations that he’ll definitely use in the movie, but Zombie has shared a few images from some of the interesting sites he’s discovered. An image reveals a bizarre statue he has just encountered while “wandering the streets of Budapest”.

Another photo reveals a bust of horror legend Bela Lugosi that the filmmaker had just visited. In the caption, Zombie says: “When in Budapest, you must visit the bust of Bela Lugosi located at Vajdahunyad Castle. Placed without permission in 2003 by German artist Hartmut Zech, it still stands on a ledge ten feet from the ground. This place is amazing. The locations are perfect. “

Zombie would also post a brief video clip featuring a large structure reminiscent of a castle. Again, it’s not clear if this will be an actual location for use in the movie, but it looks like it’s at least under consideration. Either way, it helps give us an idea of the aesthetic Zombie is going for with this new incarnation of The Munsters.

“A beautiful Saturday in Budapest in search of the Munsters,” Zombie said in the caption.

Ahead of his release from the country, Zombie received one of the show’s original stars for a visit to help him celebrate the news of the reboot. Butch Patrick, the former child star who played Eddie Munster in the original series, can be seen posing with Zombie in an image alongside the filmmaker’s own version of the Koach vehicle seen in the series. Zombie also posted a video that Patrick filmed of their ride together in the Koach.

“What a gas man! Our mate @the_real_butch_patrick_ dropped by the Zombie Residence to celebrate the new Munsters movie,” Zombie wrote. “Sure, we took the Koach for a ride. Yeah, I drove. Someone better tell Herman he needs new brakes. Ha!”

There are rumors that The Munsters: A Rob Zombie Film will release direct on the Peacock streaming service, but this is unconfirmed at this time. An official release date has not yet been announced. While Zombie has yet to officially confirm specific cast members, previous reports have suggested the main cast will include Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Dan Roebuck, Richard Brake, and Jorge Garcia. Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson is rumored to be playing a supporting role as well. You can follow the Munsters’ progress by following Rob Zombie on Instagram.
