Rachel Zegler applauds critics as Snow White in Disney live-action remake: “No, I’m not bleaching my skin for the role”

We were first teased about a Disney Snow White remake a few years ago, but details have been pretty scarce since. However, it looks like the wheels for a modern adaptation are firmly in place as Disney just announced its principal lady!

The first feature film of the fairytale classic premiered in 1937 and although there have been a few adaptations including the darker tale of Universal Snow White and the Huntsman starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart, as well as the 2012 Snow White-themed mirror mirror starring Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, Disney hasn’t revisited the original Grimm Brothers tale.

Actress Rachel Zegler has been confirmed to play Snow White in Disney’s upcoming remake. While she may be a nurse with a relatively unknown face, Zegler is set to star as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, which is due out later this year.

However, Zeglar has been the victim of social media abuse by a few who wonder why a Latin actress was chosen as the character who is originally described as “the most beautiful of all” with “such white skin. let it snow “.

Thankfully, the actress hit back at the critics, saying, “Yes I’m snow white, no I’m not bleaching my skin for the role,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

After being criticized for whitewashing her princess characters and traditionally portraying main characters with white actresses, Disney’s casting of Zeglar follows her announcement in 2019 that Black R&B singer Halle Bailey is set to play the role of Ariel in her remake of The Little Mermaid, the first Dark Princess in a 22-year-old live-action.

The confirmed director for the Snow White remake is Marc Webb, who previously worked on 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man.

These are all the Disney remakes that we have the luck with

In a statement, Webb said, “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will be integral to rediscovering joy in this classic Disney fairy tale. “

Production of the nominated film is slated to begin sometime in 2022. Watch this space!
