1. What’s next for June?

The fourth series began with generally thrilling scenes – June bleeding from her stomach, being “operated” to try and stop the infection.

Of course, they are maids on the run without any medicine or means to help them.

As a result, hero June (Elizabeth Moss) has her cauterized wound – not for the faint of heart!

Fortunately, June and her maids manage to reach a safe house on a farm.

But it quickly becomes clear that they are not as “sure” as they hoped …

After a well-deserved recovery period and a near escape from death after developing sepsis, June resolves her plan to attack Gilead’s heart.

But how? And will she get caught?

2. Who is Commander Keyes?

Mrs. Esther Keyes (Mckenna Grace), wife of Commander Keyes, welcomes June and the other maids to a safe house in episode one of series four.

When June is finally able to get out of bed while slowly recovering from her injury, she first speaks to teenage Mrs. Keyes, realizing how young she is.

Several men abused and raped her on orders from her elderly husband, she reveals.

Commander Keyes seems to ignore the fact that he harbors the resistance movement.

Does he have dementia? Is he a threat to June – or the other way around?

3. What will happen to Fred and Serena Waterford?

Fred and Serena are currently in the custody of Canadian authorities after being arrested.

US government official Mark Tuello (Sam Jaeger) informs them of the success of the plan to transport more than 80 children from Gilead to Canada.

Will Canada punish Fred and Serena for their atrocities in Gilead?

Or will they find a way to break free and get revenge in June?

4. Is this pornographic torture?

Some American viewers accused the series of turning into pornographic torture territory.

Although a man (a rapist) is murdered in the first episode, it is not shown.

Viewers know The Handmaid’s Tale is wild …

Eyes were gouged out, tongues cut, and genitals mutilated.

We saw a pregnant June being shackled and electrocuted as a result of multiple rapes.

And in a traumatic sequence, a woman saw her lover hanged.

The point is, the plot tells the fictional story of a cruel patriarchy in America.

He must be brutal in his very nature.

5. Will Esther become June’s surrogate daughter?

At the end of episode one of series four, one of Esther Keyes’ rapists breaks into the farm.

June gives the order to tie her up to the farm.

She encourages Esther to kill him.

Covered in blood, Esther later curls up with June in bed.

It is not known if June hallucinates about her estranged daughter when she tells Esther “I love you too Banana” – a nickname she had for her own daughter Hannah.

Does June make Esther a surrogate or is she delusional?

6. Will June ever be reunited with her daughters?

June’s youngest child, Nichole, was taken to Canada away from Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski).

His eldest daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) remains in Gilead, having been adopted by another family and given a new name.

We know Nichole is safe.

But will June ever get close enough to Hannah to save her? And will she want to save?

7. Which side is Nick on?

June’s former lover Nick reappears in the first episode.

But he’s in a better position than June – being a man and everything.

He is now higher up in the vile patriarchy – and one of the men who imprisons Commander Lawrence.

However, viewers are hopeful that Nick is working under duress.

Will he come to the end?

8. Will there be war?

Fred discovers that more than 80 children have escaped from Gilead.

He warns Mark that the children abducted from Gilead will start a war between the nation and Canada.

Would there be war on Gilead?
