Channel 5 drama Anne Boleyn gets very mixed reaction after first episode

The Anne Boleyn reviews came in after the first episode last night (Tuesday, June 1) and the new Channel 5 period drama received a decidedly mixed reaction.

Actress Jodie Turner-Smith starred as Henry VIII’s doomed second wife, and viewers praised her performance following the initial casting controversy.

However, while some viewers loved her as the English Queen of the Tudors, others did not.

Reviews of Anne Boleyn: What happened in the first episode?

The series tells the story of Anne, who was at the center of the intrigues of the 16th century royal court.

Viewers saw Anne pregnant with her second child with Henry, and the court hoping for a son to take over her reign.

However, after her husband was seriously injured in a jousting accident, he appeared to have changed people.

He started flirting with the bridesmaid, Jane Seymour, and Anne started to feel the heat.

When she gave birth to her stillborn son, Henry looked like he had denied him.

Anne feeling the pressure of the court and the paranoia caused by the development of Henry’s relationship with Jane, she began to fall apart.

And, as we all know, it was a battle that she ultimately lost. As well as his head.

How did viewers react to the episode?

The story’s bold and fresh retelling elicited a mixed reaction from viewers.

In the first case, many said it was “awful” and “boring”.

One of them wrote on Twitter: “#AnneBoleyn This is not very good. They made an interesting woman rather dull.

Another said: “I tried with #AnneBolyen and really liked #JodieTurnerSmith but it was so wordy and boring.

“She was a great historical figure and that’s what they found.”

A third chased: “This version of Anne is so awful. This is [a] miracle, she was not beheaded earlier.

However, all was not so bad and viewers praised Jodie for her superb performance.

One wrote: “#AnneBoleyn is one of my favorite queens in history.

“May this Queen Jodie Turner-Smith reign over us. She is an incredible actress playing an iconic person in history. #Queen.”

Another said: “I liked #AnneBoleyn so far !!

A third congratulated Jodie and Paapa Essiedu as Anne’s brother, George.

“Hands down the best Boleyn siblings I’ve seen,” said one viewer.

“It’s worth watching for this alone. Many people complain about historical accuracy, but fail to understand that we have our most accurate Anne’s and George’s to date. #Anne Boleyn.
