Before you die on C4: what is it?

The new crime thriller introduces us to DI Hannah Laing (Lesley Sharp), a detective who fights the retirement plan every step of the way.

When her married lover and fellow police officer Sean Hardacre (Bill Ward) goes missing under mysterious circumstances, she persuades her colleagues to start an urgent manhunt.

She manages to contact Sean’s confidential source, Izzy, but it’s too late – Sean is found brutally murdered the next day.

Hannah is determined to find someone responsible for Sean’s murder.

And the investigation leads her to a Croatian criminal family called the Mimicas.

At the heart of the story is Hannah’s dysfunctional relationship with her son, whom she bought for the drug trade.

Christian (Patrick Gibson) has never forgiven him for the years he spent in prison.

Before We Die is an unpredictable drama, full of twists and turns.

It is adapted from the successful Swedish series of the same name.

Before We Die on C4: How many episodes is it?

Before I die, it’s six episodes in total.

Each episode is one hour long (including commercial breaks).

At the moment, there is only one series.

However, the original Swedish thriller is made up of two series.

So there is hope for more on Channel 4!

How can I watch Before I die?

Before We Die starts Wednesday May 26, 2021 at 9 p.m. on C4.

All six episodes will be available on All 4 after the first episode.

So you can binge on it if you want!

What happens in episode one?

When Detective Inspector Hannah Laing kisses her married lover Sean Hardacre one morning, she never imagines that this will be the last time she sees her fellow detective alive.

But Sean disappears and his brutalized corpse is recovered the next day.

Determined to find whoever is responsible for his murder, Hannah accesses one of Sean’s confidential contacts and persuades ‘Izzy’ to help her untangle the tangled threads of Sean’s investigation into the Mimicas.

The Mimicas are a tight-knit family who moved from Croatia to Bristol and now run a successful restaurant…

Where is he filmed?

Before We Die is based in Bristol and the surrounding area.

However, some scenes were also filmed overseas during the pandemic – with the cast living in a covid-secured bubble.

Actress Lesley Sharp explains: “We shot a lot of the show in and around Brussels, but the setting is Bristol.

“There is a marriage of winter in the UK to the lowlands of the euro and the aspiration is to make the British landscape as troubled and dark as the world our characters are trying to move into.”
